Dr Michael Douglas

Dr Michael Douglas is a barrister at Francis Burt Chambers in Perth, WA. He has specialist expertise in defamation, torts and the conflict of laws.

Prior to joining the bar, Michael was a Consultant at Bennett, where he worked on a number of high-profile defamation matters.

Before that, Michael was a legal academic. At the University of Sydney, UWA and Curtin, Michael taught conflict of laws, federal jurisdiction, procedure, media law, torts, property, and equity, among other subjects. His PhD was on defamation law, which he studied at USyd and on exchange at Harvard Law School. He has co-authored and co-edited 5 books.

Michael’s thoughts on defo law have been published by the ABC, The Sydney Morning Herald and The New York Times.
